Uganda Crested Cranes will face their Kenyan counterparts in the official opening match of the revived CECAFA Women Championship at Njeru Technical Centre on September 11.
It will be the Crested Cranes' back-to-back international encounter against Kenya. The last time the teams met was in a friendly in Kisumu where Kenya thrashed Uganda 4-0.
While launching the competition at FUFA House on Monday, CECAFA general secretary Nicholas Musonye praised Uganda for taking up what he called the 'risk' to host the unsponsored championship.
FUFA president Moses Magogo explained that they took up the initiative as part of promotion of their women football development plan.
"While in one of the meetings at CECAFA, everybody wanted to host the senior challenge Cup and the Kagame Cup and no one was willing to host the Women championship. This is opportunity to undertake our development programmes," Magogo said.
CECAFA and FUFA have agreed to foot their own expenses. FUFA will host and transport the visiting teams while CECAFA will take costs of the prizes and taking care of the officials.
FUFA plans to host two of the seven participating countries at Njeru while the rest will be accommodated in the nearby Jinja town.
