Museveni mourns Uganda's first surgeon

Born on September 20, 1920, he died on Wednesday last week of progressive heart failure at Mulago Hospital. He was aged 96.

 

President Yoweri Museveni has mourned Uganda's first surgeon Prof. Alexander Mwa Odonga.

Museveni paid his last respects to Prof. Odonga at his home in Naguru in Kampala.

 "I got to know him 15 years ago when he treated a visiting top dignitary who had suffered intestinal obstruction. I thank the widow for looking after him. His children and other young people should emulate him," the President said.

Prof Odonga, who served as dean of Makerere Medical School, was Uganda's first surgeon and worked for 47 years.
