Ssebuguzi, Blick challenged to win Pearl of Africa Rally

Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Rally (September 15-17)

Former national rally champion Ronald Ssebuguzi and current champion Arthur Blick Jr have been urged to fight hard and win the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally due September 15-17 in Busiika, Luweero and Mubende districts.

Vivo Energy managing director Hans Paulsen made the call on Tuesday afternoon during the launch of the annual event at the company offices in Industrial Area before committing sh100m to this year's edition.

"We support two drivers Arthur and Ronald and we want them to win this championship. Whoever comes first or second, they will sort themselves," Paulsen said.

"V-Power is the best in automobile performance and we shall continue supporting FMU as long as they observe safety of all participants including fans, environmental protection and keep our reputation good in the public," Paulsen said before handing over the cheque to FMU president Dusman Okee.

Okee lauded Shell for the continued support and promised the best ever organised rally.

"We shall do whatever it takes to have the best organised rally and I can assure you that safety and accountability are always our priority," Okee stated.

The 19th edition of the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda is the sixth round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) and is expected attract top foreign drivers around the continent.

The event will cover a total distance of 670km of which 235km is competitive and the rest transport according to clerk of the course David Mayanja.
