Defilement cases high in Teso region

Seven accused persons were convicted by Soroti High Court

Police has released a six month report detailing defilement cases committed in Teso region.

Police spokesman Michael Odongo while releasing the report said defilement is mostly committed during the month of December.

He said December is the month schools and other education institutions break off for long holidays in which girls are exposed to men who defile them.

Out of 54 cases of defilement reported between January and July, Odongo says they recorded 10 cases in July 2016.

Odongo who called on parents in Teso to take care of their children during holidays said defilement has caused many girls to drop out of school.

In this period, seven accused persons were convicted by Soroti High Court while others are still being investigated.
