Taxi drivers under their umbrella body Kampala Operational Taxi Stages Association (KOTSA) have called off their sit-down strike which they had announced to start on Monday.

The drivers had vowed not to carry passengers from today if the alleged errors in the traffic police billing process and car impounding are not addressed.

They abandoned the strike after a meeting with the director of traffic in the Uganda Police Dr. Stephen Kasiima at Naguru police headquarters.

Kasiima told the drivers that he has with immediate effect suspended impounding taxis for failure to pay tickets issued to them.

Meanwhile, National Organisations of Trade Unions chairman General, Usher Wilson Owere, promised the drivers that he will bring their issues to the attention of President Yoweri Museveni who has the powers to repeal all the faulty tickets issued before.
