Ssimbwa joins Soana FC

For a while, I have been looking for an experienced coach to join us. I'm happy to get Ssimbwa to my club.

Sam Simbwa is set to resume coaching this Monday following a two-year contract agreement with Soana FC owner Smart Obedi on Friday.

Ssimbwa replaces coach Charles Ayeko who had a string of disagreements with Obedi over management of the club before he resigned last week.

When contacted, Ssimbwa confirmed signing the contract which will fetch him a monthly salary of sh3m during the season and sh2m while in off-season.

Obedi, who throughout last season struggled to get an established tactician to coach his team, could not hide his delight after agreeing terms with Ssimbwa.

"For a while, I have been looking for an experienced coach to join us. I'm happy to get Ssimbwa to my club. He has a following and I'm sure he will woe more fans onto our side," Obedi said after offering Ssimbwa the contract.

FUFA in April found Ssimbwa guilty of statements that jeopardised authenticity of match results and suspended him for eight months with consideration of 88 days that he spent out of his duty at KCCA FC as he was being investigated.

His first assignment at Soana FC will be to guide the team in the Azam Uganda Premier League past the Saints FC at home in Kavumba Recreational Centre tomorrow (Tuesday).

However, unless Obedi allows Ssimbwa to manage the team without his interferences, their 'marriage' is unlikely to last given Ssimbwa's demand for independence while coaching.

Ayeko resigned at Soana FC last week after accusing Obedi of recruiting players against his will as the coach and forcing him to field players he does not want to play and yet he takes the blame as the coach when the team loses matches.
