The minister for Kampala, Beti Kamya has asked legislatures to grant Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) management a period of three weeks before appearing on Usafi market issues.

The Parliamentary committee on Presidential affairs last month summoned the management of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to brief parliament about the status of USAFI market.

Kamya said that she and the management of KCCA have set up a commission of inquiry on all the city markets urging that she asked the legislatures to grant them sometime to find out what is in all the city markets instead of appearing to defend only one market.

"My office has received several petitions from the different markets and the commission will first give us a report on all the markets in Kampala including Usafi market," Kamya told the New Vision.

The legislatures had asked the asked the clerk to write to KCCA, to appear before the committee and give us details regarding USAFI market.

"We understand, the market is not fully occupied yet parliament approved a lot of money for the procurement of this market," Suzan Amero, the deputy committee chairperson told parliament last week

KCCA officially took over the market after sealing a Shs39.458 billion deal with Safinet Company, which was managing the facility sitting on 6.2 acres of land.

Acquired in 2014, the market was intended to accommodate thousands of vendors evicted from different city streets in Kampala.
