It was Ssenoga's first major championship win after eight years of trying. He finished third in the 2015 Mr. Uganda championship held in Lira on New Year's Day.

Andrew Ssenoga defeated five other finalists to win the Mr. Kampala bodybuilding championship at Mt. Zion Hotel on Sunday.

Competing in the Heavy Weight category, the Buziga Country Club muscleman edged Light Heavy's Joel Byron, who finished second, by body mass. But the two matched on height and muscle definition. Ssenoga was also more composed and entertaining.

It was Ssenoga's first major championship win after eight years of trying. He finished third in the 2015 Mr. Uganda championship held in Lira on New Year's Day.

The 29 year old, Buziga Country Club, muscleman is already looking forward to adding the Mr. Uganda title later this year and also competing internationally.

"It has been a long wait but today I was confident that I would win it. But it has not been easy; this is an expensive sport that takes all your life; you must be committed and determined to training; and balancing between family, training and work is not very easy, but I've made it," Ssenoga said.

"Maintaining this body is expensive; for example I have spent over sh4m on just feeding alone in the past five months so I'm grateful to my sponsors; De Posh bar and all my friends who have helped me in training," Ssenoga said.

"After this win I should also take the 2016 Mr. Uganda as well; I'm going to prepare more and return with a better package and I'm looking forward to competing internationally," Ssenoga stated.

Runner up Joel Byron conceded defeat and also promised to work hard and supplement his feeding in order to win in subsequent competitions.

At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Sports has pledged to offer two air tickets to the best body builders to represent the country at the Mr. Universe and the AM World Cup in the US this year.

Commissioner for Sport in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Omara Apita made the pledge on behalf of the ministry, during the Championships on Sunday.

The event was sponsored by Mt. Zion Hotel, Shayan Energy, HOMEBET, Oddman, Oxford SS Kawempe, Nakivubo and Fit for Life gyms.
