Japan to support Uganda in fighting terrorism

Kameda says Japan will equip the Ministry of International Affairs with the capacity to prevent terrorism attacks.

The new Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, Kazuaki Kameda, has pledged his government's support to Uganda in the fight against terrorism.

He said this can be done by strengthening border control that can deny extremists to enter the country to cause havoc.

Kameda said Japan will provide equipment (detecting machines) and equip the Ministry of International Affairs with the capacity to prevent terrorism attacks.

He noted that such measures are good to facilitate trade and movement of people.

"The fight against terrorism needs to be strengthened and measures to prevent attacks need to be put in place, but also we have to tackle the cause of extremists, poverty and employment," Kameda said.

The Ambassador was briefing the media about the forthcoming Tokyo International Conference for African Development VI (TICAD VI) to be held in Kenya's capital Nairobi on August 27 to 28.
 
He said the TICAD VI conference is aimed to tackle challenges Africa is facing.
 
He also noted that the conference will also address issues raised at the TICAD V conference held in 2013 at Yokohama, which include robust and sustainable economy, inclusive and resilient economy and peace and stability.

"Without peace and stability, no country can develop," Kamega said.
 
Kameda pointed out that TICAD is very inclusive forum where Japan co-hosts it with the United Nations, the World Bank and the African Union Commission and invites all African leaders, relevant international agencies, development partner countries, private companies  and  representatives of civil society.

Earlier the Ambassador toured grant grassroots projects (GGP) funded by Embassy of Japan in northern Uganda among them constructing of dormitories for girls at Opiya and Kalongo Primary Schools, supply of clean and safe water health and construction of new operating theatre in Agago district.
