Museveni sends condolences to France

President Yoweri Museveni has joined various leaders around the world in condemning terror attacks in France, saying the attack on the innocent people of Nice has reignited the resolve to fight extremism.

In a letter to Francois Hollande, the President of France, Museveni also sent condolences to the bereaved families, pledging Uganda's support as France continues to grapple with the aftermath of the terror attack that left 84 people dead and scores injured.

"Your Excellency, this attack gives us even more courage to strengthen our shared resolve towards the fight against terrorism and extremism in our world in order to promote tolerance, peace and understanding among our people," Museveni wrote to Hollande on July 15.

During Bastille Day celebrations on July 14, a terrorist drove through crowds commemorating the day in Nice.  The driver of the lorry told police that he was delivering ice cream to the over 3, 000-strong crowd.

"Your Excellency, with deep sorrow, I wish, on behalf of the people of Uganda and, my own behalf, to convey my heartfelt condolences to the people of France and all the families of the deceased," Museveni said.

"Your Excellency, our prayers are with you at this difficult time for the healing of the wounded and to rest the souls of the deceased in eternal peace," he added.
