Eight foreigners injured in South Sudan violence

Eight people among them Ugandans, a Kenyan, South Sudanese and a Zimbabwean are nursing injuries at different hospitals in Uganda, after they were shot at South Sudan militants in an ambush along the Juba-Uganda Highway.

Some of the survivors, who spoke to Radio Rupiny last evening, said they were attacked at around 3:00pm around Aruu Junction and Amer areas which are about 190 kilometres to Nimule from the Ugandan border.

The injured have been identified as Michael Angengo, 42, a Kenyan chef with an undisclosed NGO in Juba, Mohammed Zahara, 31, Mohammed Kyozi, 24, Martin Mula, 25, both from Kampala and James Abuyo, 27, hailing from Koboko district in West Nile.

Most of the casualties sustained injuries to their legs with many taken to St. Mary's Hospital Lacor for treatment.

Four others whose identities could not easily be established by press time.

Meanwhile, two people who work with the UNAMISS Mine Action Group in Toorit, over 500km from Juba were ambushed and shot along the Ngala-Ngala Road and Malo on Toorit East of Juba on Tuesday morning.

Rachael Aboul, a South Sudanese national and Yohannes Nzua a Zimbabwean who reportedly sustained serious bullet injuries were evacuated by aircraft to Kampala for treatment.

The Regional Traffic Officer of Aswa River based at the border, Richard Pajobo, confirmed that traffic flow had been completely disrupted.
