Uganda won't just make up numbers at World Softball Championship

A number of world class players from Canada, Ireland, United States, China, Australia, New Zealand, Australia, Japan among others will headline the nine day tournament.

National team captain Esther Nakabugo is hopeful her side won't just make up numbers at the Fifteenth Women World Softball Championships that gets underway on 15-24 July, in Canada!

"This is our biggest hurdle in our careers but we are ready to give it all our best and make the country proud," she said.

Nakabugo made the revelation during the official flag off of the National Softball team at the NCS headquarters in Lugogo .

A number of world class players from Canada, Ireland, United States, China, Australia, New Zealand, Australia, Japan among others will headline the nine day tournament.

Uganda is set to bank on the services of Esther  Nakabugo, Rosemary Jopaowitt, Rukia Ajabo,Safina Letaru, Janet Mbabazi, Gloria Ocokoru, Annet Nimungu, Gladys Ruko, Lynnete Nalubega, Awori Brenda, Faith Agwang, Noel Apamakuru, Leona Mirembe, Mable Kunihira, Crossley Magdalena and Crossley Maria.

Meanwhile NCS fulfilled their pledge of two tickets to the team and on handing them over, David Katende, the assistant General Secretary urged the girls to positively represent the country.

I caution you to carry high our flag not only on the pitch but off the pitch as you keep discipline and maintain the strong relationship with the Canadian community" he said.

National coach Otim Allan, Tonny Opio and head of mission coach Joni frei are travelling  with the team to Surrey, Canada.  
Uganda is in pool D with Canada, Britain, and Republic of Ireland and Japan are the defending champions having won the previous edition back in 2014 in Haarlem, Netherlands.
