Lwanga asks seminarians to be open-minded

The Archbishop of Kampala, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has asked Seminarians to be open and report to him all the serious challenges that they encounter in the parishes.

Lwanga also asked the seminarians to be more available to the youths and help them to overcome their challenges.

Lwanga was initiating 21 Major Seminarians into the minor orders of Lector and Acolyte at Rubaga Cathedral on Sunday.  Lector and Acolyte are minor ministries which seminarians are initiated into before being ordained into the major orders of diaconate and priesthood.

Lwanga later asked the seminarians to know well their duties, which include reading the word of God during solemn worship, reciting psalms, presenting the intentions of general intercession and preparing Christians for the worthy reception of Sacraments.

Lwanga said that the Lectors/Acolytes are also permitted to preside over funeral prayers, to distribute Holy Communion in the absence of a priest or Deacon and, to expose the Blessed Sacrament for Adoration.

Lwanga gave all the 21 newly installed Lectors/Acolytes letters commissioning them to do pastoral work in various parishes and seminaries.

They will spend one year at their respective stations, after which they will go back to the seminaries and study Theology for 4 years, before becoming priests.
