Namata appointed as Nakawa deputy mayor

KAMPALA - Nakawa division mayor Ronald Nsubuga Balimwezo, backed by all the council councillors, appointed Florence Namata Mungi as the deputy mayor in Nakawa council.

Namata is the woman councillor representing the people of Mulimila parish in Nakawa division. She was seconded by councilor Ronald Kitimbo.

“She is someone all people can get to as fast as possible in case of any matter since she is ever available,” said Kitimbo.

Addressing the council, Balimwezo said he decided to appoint Namata to balance the gender in the council leadership.

He said Namata comes from Mulimila parish, the dirtiest place in Nakawa, adding that she will help raise the sanitation standards of the area now that she has a big post at the council.

“She much supports education in children and that’s one of the key factors that we are looking at in this term.”

Namata is an independent in the council and she will unite people of all political beliefs in the division, said Balimwezo.

The Nakawa mayor requested Kampala Lord mayor Erias Lukwago to give back some powers to the divisional mayors for the smooth running of their services.

Nakawa chief magistrate James Ereemye, assisted by the Nakawa clerk Joel Matovu, swore in Namata as the deputy mayor.

After taking oath, Namata promised to work together with all the people in the division without discrimination for the development of their area.

Amos Mugambe, a resident of Nakawa, told New Vision that Namata and the council should look out for immediate solutions to the poor disposal of rubbish in their area.
