Uganda's education system among the best in Africa - Nigerian commissioner

The acting Nigerian high commissioner to Uganda, Alus Tyoden has hailed the education system in Uganda as one of the best in Africa.

Tyoden, in a speech read by the senior chancellor at the Nigerian high commission, Ojo  Olabode while addressing Busoga University Nigerian Students Association at the main campus located in SMS village,Bulamagi sub county Iganga, on Wednesday said the Ugandan system of education is so good that's why several Nigerian students are being attracted to join higher institutions of learning in the country.

He said several students who previously completed pursuing their studies in several Ugandan universities have been comfortably offered job opportunities in the public sector after being accredited by the Nigerian universities commission.

"Whenever I get back to my country, I encourage more students to come here because the education system is one of the best in the whole world," he said.

Tyoden said the Nigerian high commission has embarked on a program of counting the number of students currently enrolled in public universities or institutions of higher learning in the country for purposes of maintaining their safety.

He urged Nigerian students to be cautious of fraudsters who are of recent been moving around several institutions with fake student permits.

 He also advised students to avoid engaging in violent strikes while at school which is likely to negatively affect their future.

The deputy vice chancellor Busoga University Busoga University, Elder Ndiwalana applauded government for the support towards improving the standards of education at the campus.

Ndiwalana said the university has received a consignment of text books worth sh450m from government for restocking the main library.

He cautioned Nigerian students to avoid engaging in risky sexual behaviour in order to prevent contracting HIV.

 The president national Nigerian Students Association, Ibrahim Masudi warned students against engaging in drug abuse which ruins their lives.

He said several Nigerian students currently studying in Uganda have fallen victims to illegal use of drugs like marijuana,cocanine which has ruined their lives or end up being prosecuted and charged before courts of law.
