Okwi flirting with idea of return to Simba

The club has ruled out signing any Ugandan and Kenyan players

Tanzanian club Simba SC has ruled out signing any Ugandan and Kenyan players amidst the talk of Emmanuel Okwi's return to the Dar es Salam side.

Okwi had hinted at a possible return to Tanzania following an unhappy stint at Danish club Sonderjyske and some Simba officials were positive about the move save for the club players' registration committee boss Zacharia Hans Poppe.

"Okwi is one the best players we have had, but our budget cannot facilitate his return to the club from a Danish club. We have at the moment been forced to skip Okwi's return and concentrate on hunting of other talented players," Poppe said.

But the real reason for not returning Okwi to Simba appears to be the recent decision the club has taken not to sign players from Uganda and Kenya.

"We had three players from Uganda last season and we witnessed how they contributed in keeping us out of the championship race. It was that reason that forced us to seek players from other parts of Africa," said Poppe.

He added that he has already signed industrious players from Ivory Coast and Zimbabwe.

This decision makes Simba FC acting coach Jackson Mayanja's stay at the Tanzanian club uncertain. Mayanja is currently in Kampala.

The dismissed Ugandan players include Hamis Kiiza who netted 19 goals for Simba, Murshid Juuko and Brian Majwega.
