FEASSSA Games: Kawempe, Mukono High rearing to go

Jun 10, 2016

Uganda will be represented by 33 teams

Kawempe Muslim last won the East Africa Secondary Schools girls soccer title in 2012 in the FEASSSA games held in Burundi's capital Bujumbura.

Since then, the national girls' soccer record winners have struggled against Kenyan and Burundian opposition, including a lacklustre performance in last year's edition in Huye, Rwanda.

However, after leading her side to the 7th title of the Ball Games I girls soccer in Masindi last week, Kawempe Muslim captain Hasfa Nassuna has promised a better performance at the coming games in Kenya in August.

"We are still a strong team and we know how much is expected of us. Our previous performances at the East Africa games have not been good of recent, but we promise to do it better this year," Nassuna said.

Andrew Nyendwoha, who saw his Mukono High side reach their first final to also book their maiden ticket to the regional games, promised a medal stage finish.

For the Ball Games I, Uganda will be represented by 33 teams in Basketball, Girls soccer, Rugby, Hockey and Racket games (Table Tennis, Badminton and Lawn Tennis).

The other teams of Volleyball, Netball, Athletics, Handball and Rugby 7s, will be named after the Ball Games II due in Rukungiri in July.
