Parents on Ochero landing site, Ochero sub-county in Kaberamaido district have been advised to desist from sending their children to fish instead of being at school.

According to Benjamin Ogulu, the project officer Church Of Uganda Teso Dioceses Development Organization (CoU-TEDDO) in charge of Kaberamaido district, most parents there keep children home to help them with fishing as it is the major economic activity.

Ogulu said that as a result, most of the children don't know how to read and write a thing.  The problem should be addressed now that schools have reopened, he added.

According to the official, this practice has deprived children of their right to education which he said is wrong.
