NCS to meet media over compliance campaign

NCS general secretary Nicholas Muramagi in an exclusive interview with New Vision argued that the process is slow because the media as a partner does not fully understand the exercise.

National Council of Sports (NCS) has resolved to host media personalities for a half day meeting on Tuesday to enlighten them on their demand for all national sports federations and association to comply with NCS regulations.

NCS general secretary Nicholas Muramagi in an exclusive interview with New Vision argued that the process is slow because the media as a partner does not fully understand the exercise.

He argued some sections of the media have criticized the exercise because the journalists do not have enough information on their demands for all the associations/federations to register with them.

Among the demands is that a federation/association must have an executive in place, a calendar of activities, minutes of the meetings/annual general assemblies, audited books of accounts and register of members.

"I wish to tell you that some of the associations crying that the regulations are bad, do not actually fulfil the requirements. They know that they cannot meet the demands," Muramagi said.

He insisted that by June 30th, 2016 any sports association or federation that does not have a certificate of recognition from NCS will be forced to stop representing the nation.

Only 17 national sports bodies have complied with the exercise and have been issued with NCS certificate of recognitions.
