Guards 'dismissed' for refusing to slash compound

"Our work is to guard this place and not to slash."

The resident district commissioner for Busia district has reportedly dismissed two security guards at his office for refusing to slash the compound.

Kennedy Adhola Otiti had directed the two guards to clear the bushy compound but they refused.

"Our work is to guard this place and not to slash," said one of the men, who asked not to be named.

He said they will not report for duty because Otiti ordered them not to after the fiasco.

The security guard was puzzled that the RDC wants them to slash his compound yet "his office gets two million shillings every month to cater so such maintenance requirements".

Meanwhile, the district police commander, Nelson Nahabwe, said the two security personnel had not officially reported the matter to him but said it was absurd if the RDC had treated them that way.
