A total of 75 girls have been selected from different teams that were taking part in the just concluded Ball Games I girls soccer tournament at Kabalega SS in Masindi.

The national U-17 team coach Hadijja Namuyanja, pitched camp in Masindi throughout the week long event going through the selection exercise.

"We had to take this advantage of finding them in one place and look at them in several matches. We shall take them to Njeru for further development before drafting them into the U-17, U-20 and the senior team," Namuyanja said.

Namuyanja also added that if some make it to the required standards, they shall be drafted into the national teams that will represent Uganda at the forthcoming Women's CECAFA championship due in Kampala in August.

She said she was impressed at the way the girls' game has improved in all regions in the country, sighting the examples of wonderful talents in upcountry schools like Kibingo Girls and Sheema Girls both from Sheema district, Olira Girls Soroti, Christ School Masindi, among others.

The girls soccer is fast improving in the country with many schools having embraced the discipline, where 73 teams took part in this year's edition, increasing from 61 last year in Mbarara.
