The warrant which is signed by the Chief magistrate, James Ereemye Mawanda, requires the prison officers to present Besigye before court on Wednesday at 9 am.

The Nakawa Chief Magistrates court has issued a production warrant to Luzira Prison authorities to produce the Forum for Democratic Change's (FDC's) Kizza Besigye.

The warrant which is signed by the Chief magistrate, James Ereemye Mawanda, requires the prison officers to present Besigye before the court on Wednesday at 9 am.

According to sources privy to the case, he will be formally arraigned before court and the treason charges will be read to him afresh. The state will also be expected to update the court on the status of their investigations.

Besigye's file was transferred from Moroto magistrates court on Tuesday to Nakawa chief magistrates'court on the request of the state.

On the same request, the embattled four times presidential contender was transferred from Moroto Police station to Luzira Maximum prisons where he is currently detained.

On May 13, 2016, Besigye was arraigned before the Moroto Chief Magistrate, Charles Yeteise and charged with treason.

It is alleged that he and others who are still at large on Febraury 20 and May 11, 2016, planned to forcefully ascend to the office of the president.

He also, while in the various parts of Wakiso and Kampala Districts, demanded for an independent international audit of the February 18 polls, to be conducted before the president is sworn in.

According to the prosecution, he on April 7, while at Kasangati, uttered words to the effect that he would establish a cabinet for the republic of Uganda.

Other accusations against him are that he unlawfully declared himself winner of the 2016 presidential elections, he defied lawful orders and mobilized people to attend his swearing in and that he unlawfully took the presidential oath, undertaking to execute the functions and duties of the office of the president.
