One dead, 10 injured after car plunges into river

All 10 have been admitted in critical condition

One person has been confirmed dead and 10 others injured after the vehicle they were traveling in overturned and plunged into River Mahoma along the Fort Portal-Kasese Road on Sunday evening.

Lydia Tumushabe the Rwenzori Region Police spokesperson identified the dead as Adolph Irumba 37, hailing from Rwengaju in Busoro Sub County, Kabarole district.

The injured have been identified as Stephen Mwesige 23, Brian Bacwa 25, Erias Mwesige 35, Rapheal Itungo 24 and Ronald Musobozi 26 all from Kitumba in Fort Portal Municipality.

The others are Flavia Kahunde 45, Joshua Mwanguhya 20, Clovice Amanyire 21, Tusiime 35 and Kibubu 23 who were travelling to Kibito for burial.

Tumushabe revealed that all the 10 have been admitted at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.

They were traveling in a vehicle registration number UG 0399Y which rammed into a trailer registration number UAV 949B/UAM 323Q which was heading to Kampala.

The driver of the omnibus Gerald Tugume, 34, is said to have gone into hiding following the accident.

 Tumushabe blamed the accident on over speeding and reckless driving.
