Bilal Philips visits UMSC headquarters

He said his visit in Uganda to boost education among Muslims as one way of fighting poverty and extremism.

A renowned Muslim scholar and author Dr. Abu-Ameenah Bilal Philips has today paid a courtesy call to His Eminence the Deputy Mufti in his office at the National Mosque - UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala.

While at Old Kampala, Philips and his delegation met with the Deputy Mufti of Uganda Shk. Khatwib Mukuluwakika, the UMSC Secretary General Hon. Ramathan Mugalu and other members of the UMSC management.

The Deputy Mufti welcomed Bilal Philips to UMSC and commended him for championing Daawa and Muslim education worldwide.

Dr. Philips commended the UMSC administration for promoting unity and development as well as interfaith dialogue in Uganda.

He said his visit in Uganda to boost education among Muslims as one way of fighting poverty and extremism.

In his capacity as the Chancellor of the Islamic Online University based in Doha Qatar, Dr. Philips announced an offer of 1000 university scholarships to Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

Students who will be selected will pursue degree and master's degree courses in Islamic Studies, Education, Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance and other courses.

The UMSC Secretary General thanked Dr. Philips for the scholarships offer noting that when the right time comes, UMSC will use its well established structures to vet and select eligible students.

He also said that UMSC will work hand in hand with Dr. Philips in lobbying the ministry of education to recognize the courses offered by the Islamic Online University to Ugandan students.
