The minister says the university will solve the issues and send her a report after.

KAMPALA - Education minister Jessica Alupo has responded to the recent Makerere University saga involving Dr. Stella Nyanzi of the university's Institute for Social Research (MISR).

A senior research fellow at the institute, Nyanzi made headlines when she stripped in front of the office of the institute's executive director, Prof. Mahmood Mamdani on Monday this week.

She was protesting against Mamdani's directive that she vacates her office for choosing to do private contract research instead of teaching on the PhD programme.

Monday's incident drew mixed public reactions over Nyanzi actions, with some critical of her way of protest while others supporting her rather bold move.

Minister Alupo says that Nyanzi's issues will be solved by the university management and later a "formal report" will be submitted to her office.

She adds that after receiving the report, her office will be able to engage the stakeholders including Dr. Nyanzi and Prof. Mahmood Mamdani.
