According to the ACME website, The Uganda National Journalism Awards (UNJA) are presented annually to reward these journalists who work tirelessly, often in the face of great difficulty, political pressure and financial constraints.

"UNJA gained traction quite quickly, becoming arguably the biggest media awards in East Africa," said ACME executive director, Dr. Peter G. Mwesige.

A total of 29 journalists from the New Vision have been shortlisted.

This third edition of the Awards is open to all professional journalists working in Uganda.

The Awards are intended to inspire young journalists to embrace enterprise and investigative journalism, increase the quantity and quality of public affairs reporting and investigative journalism and to increase the diversity of voices in media coverage.

They are also aimed at promoting accurate, knowledgeable, enterprise and investigative reporting in all media and advancing innovation in storytelling and news presentation.

The Awards, managed by ACME, represent the pinnacle of achievement for Ugandan journalists by recognizing exceptional reporting and showcasing outstanding work.

Since their inception in three years ago, the Uganda National Journalism Awards have grown in both stature and nature.
