USPA Gala set for April 29th

Ronald Otile, Ivan Byekwaso and Rachael Nanyonga are on the three-man shortlist

The much anticipated annual Nile Special USPA Awards Gala will be held at Serena Hotel on April 29 according to USPA president Sabiiti Muwanga.

One of golfer Ronald Otile, bodybuilder Ivan Byekwaso and netballer Rachael Nanyonga who made three-man shortlist for the main award will be crowned the 2015 Nile Special-USPA Sportsman of the Year at the function.

The change in venue is one of the moves by the sponsor to make the event bigger and better every year according to the president.

Meanwhile boxers Kennedy Katende and Ronald Serugo were also unanimously voted as the Nile Special USPA Sports Personalities of March after they boxed their way to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in March.

Katende beat South Africa's Luvuyo Sizani in the heavyweight division while flyweight Serugo beat Lesotho's Moroka Mokotho to qualify as Uganda's only boxers in the event due in August.

Athletes Phillip Kipyeko  who won a silver medal at the Africa Cross Country Championships in Yaounde Cameroon where he clocked 26 minutes, 36 seconds to finish second in the senior men's 10km race and Joshua Cheptegei  who won the 10km Villa De Laredo race in Spain in a time of 27 minutes, 45 seconds were also commended.

Meanwhile Uganda Sports Press Association members who from now miss three consecutive monthly assemblies risk missing out on some privileges that come with associating with the sports body.
