When he was assured of university education at Uganda Christian University in the August intake, Kathbert Malinga had to start his pre-season at Sky VC, displaying top-notch volleyball at the KIU Open championship.

Despite spiking from deep in the court, the 21-year-old scored from every attack, comfortably took the position of the lead power attacker at Sky VC and as they tamed bitter rivals Sport-S 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 in the final over the weekend.

The club had just reportedly assured him of sh8m tuition to take up a three-year course of his choice at Uganda Christian University as long as, he can deliver top-notch displays.

"Malinga is our most expensive player among the new signings. I'm happy he showed up," Omedo said.

"The local calendar is not our target because we can't continue playing basic volleyball. We want the international scene and the Rwanda Genocide Cup in particular this year," he added.

Armed with other players like Emma Kato, coach player Isaac Omedo, Phillip Wandawa, Nicholas Dheyongera, Jonathan Akugizibwe with an average height of 5ft 5in, Sky VC is focused away from basic ‘get ball over the net' style of volleyball.

In the women's category, Sport-S tamed Vision Volleyball Camp 25-23, 25-15, 33-31 with Atreede Agaba, Eunice Amuron and Peace Busingye scoring at will at KIU courts on Sunday.
