President Yoweri Museveni currently in Rwenzori region on a security assessment mission, on Sunday morning took time off to tour parts of Queen Elizabeth National Park including the Kazinga Channel.

The 32-kilometre long channel that links Lake Edward and Lake George is the dominant feature of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The natural channel with one of the world's largest concentrations of hippos and numerous Nile crocodiles also attracts a varied range of birds and other animals.

Camped at Mweya Safari Lodge, the President interacted with staff at the lodge and assured the nation and the world of guaranteed security for tourism.

He said he was in Mweya to promote touring and to affirm to the world about guaranteed security in the region.

“I made time today and visited Queen Elizabeth National Park. Besides the Kasenyi Animal Sight spot near Lake George, I also toured the spectacular Kazinga Channel and Mweya Safari Lodge" Museveni said in a Facebook post.

"The spirit of my tour, including my recent visit of Semuliki National Park, is to promote tourism. I encourage Ugandans to visit these tourism sites and appreciate the beauty of their country.

I also want to assure Ugandans and the whole world that Uganda is safe and their security is guaranteed in any part of the country" he added.

It has an impressive view of the Rwenzori Mountains. To the East are the guardians of the birthplace of mankind, the great lift valley hills meandering Kazinga Channel.

Last week, Museveni made a brief stop at Sempaya tourist site and toured Nyansimbi hot springs in Semuliki National Park.

While there, the President commended the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) workers at Sempaya tourist site for their good work in the tourism sector in particular and to the country as a whole.
