Market Vendors of Soroti Main market have finally accepted to relocate to a temporal market to pave way for re-development under the Phase 2 of the Market and Agriculture Trade Improvement Programme.

MATIP-2 is a follow up of MATIP-1 and aims to cover nine municipalities and two town councils across the country.

World Bank through the African Development Bank and Ministry of Local Government has injected about shs391bn for MATIP 2 where markets in Soroti, Arua, Mbarara, Masaka, Entebbe, Moroto, Tororo among other municipalities will be re-developed.

Soroti Municipality due to political interferences missed out in MATIP-1.

However, in their meeting on Tuesday at the market, venders embraced MATIP-2, calling on Soroti Municipal Council authorities to gazette a temporal market for them to move to.

The chairperson Soroti Market Vendors Association, George William Eriebat, said that vendors are ready for the project.

He noted that the vendors' executive will sign a memorandum of understanding with Soroti Municipal Council authorities to ensure that all venders owning lock-ups retain them after the market is re-developed.
