Motorists and pedestrians escaped unhurt when an accident involving four cars occurred on Thursday morning along Jinja Road at the Nakawa traffic lights.

The pileup was sparked by a lorry registration number UAM 902M which failed to brake at the junction.

When the lorry failed to stop, it ploughed into the cars ahead of it causing severe damage to them.

The driver of the lorry tried in vain to use hand signals but it was too late to avoid it ramming into a Toyota saloon car registration number UAK 837B which in turn made contact with two other cars.

One person was in the saloon car which was left mangled but he miraculously escaped without injury.

Efforts to get comment from traffic police at the scene of the incident were futile.
