KCCA says some people construct houses that do not match to the rapidly growing standards of the city.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has conducted a physical planning information clinic to sensitize people in Kawempe division, Kampala on what is required for one to construct a building in Kampala city.

The one day information clinic was organized by the authority's physical planning department in conjunction with the enforcement team.

Addressing Kawempe residents, KCCA's physical planning boss, Anita Kusiima said most people construct houses that do not match to the rapidly growing standards of the city.

"Some of you construct buildings which do not match to the growing standards of the city. For example, there people who still construct buildings without escape doors, windows and other ventilations," Kusiima said.

She added that, this puts lives of people in those buildings at stake adding that it is KCCA's job to see to it that all people in the city stay out of danger.

Kusiima further requested people to get professional architectures to draw building plans for them and thereafter take them for approval at KCCA.

She urged them to invite KCCA officials to check out their buildings after construction and get occupation permits to ensure that their buildings are safe for residing in.

The director operations, KCCA Rusoke Kituuma told people that the authority trains officers on how to treat suspects in the city and requested the public to report whoever they see mistreating any person.

He added that KCCA does not support mistreating people adding that in a period of one and a half years, they have fired sixty two enforcement officers for misbehaving on duty.

Kituuma further requested the public to report all people who pose as KCCA officers and those that take bribes to police to face the law.

Kibe zone area chairperson Huudu Mugalaasi appreciated KCCA for sensitizing people adding that many were acting out of law ignorantly.

He further told KCCA official to abide by the laws that they put in place when operating their duties adding that most of the junior officials defy the authority laws while operating duties like demolitions.

Sam Mpagi a resident of Kawempe suggested that there is need for KCCA to put in more time to sensitize people more on the processes one has to go through to construct in Kampala.
