Foreign netball teams will start arriving in Kampala on Thursday ahead of the annual East and Central Africa Netball Club Championship slated for April 2-9 at the MTN arena, Lugogo.

Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) general secretary, Annet Kisomose said on Tuesday that this will offer a wider platform for local players to test themselves ahead of the national league.

"Due to limited finances, most of our local clubs can't afford to take their players across borders to participate in this tournament but now that it's going to be hosted in Kampala, I expect most of our players and teams to maximize this opportunity," Kisomose stated.

Uganda last hosted the event in 2012 at the outdoor courts at Makerere University.

"We learnt a lot from the Netball World Cup and we felt that this event being the biggest in our region we should also create an atmosphere slightly similar to what we experienced in Australia," she added.

Last year, Uganda's National Insurance Company (NIC) lost the title to Kenyan's Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (MOICT) 32-29 in the finals at Gymkhana Club, Zanzibar.

The insurance side is expected to join other local teams including league champions Prisons, UPDF, Police, UCU and KCCA in the quest for the regional title.
