Policeman wanted for stealing from accident victims

The incident occurred three weeks ago where eight people died in Kapir along Kumi-Soroti highway

An Assistant Inspector of Police (ASP) attached to Ngora police station is on the run after an arrest order was issued for him.

The RDC Ngora who is also the chairperson security committee in the district, John Henry Ariong said the the arrest order for Hillary Mugambe was issued from Kampala police headquarters.

Ariong said that Mugambe is wanted to answer charges of stealing property of the dead.

It's alleged that Mugambe and three other police officers stole property including unspecified amounts of money from accident victims.

The incident occurred three weeks ago where eight people died in Kapir along Kumi-Soroti highway.

Three of Mugambe's colleagues were on Thursday and taken to the regional police headquarters in Soroti.

They are Constable David Opolot, Martin Emmanuel Apungia and Simon Oluka. Apungia and Oluka are crime preventers in Ngora district.

According to the arrest order, the suspects are to be taken to Kampala where they will be presented before the Anti-Corruption Court to answer charges related to theft, abuse of office and many others.

Arion warned police officers against unprofessional code of conduct noting that whoever breaks the law will not be tolerated.
