The Ugandan bantam was unlucky as he was edged out 2-1 in the last round in on-going Africa Olympic qualifier.

The exit of Mugerwa leaves only two out of the seven Ugandan boxers still standing in the 10-day event that ends Saturday.

Light heavyweight Kenneth Katende and flyweight Ronald Serugo inched a step away to the Rio Games mark punching their way to Thursday's semi-finals.

Serugo who prevailed over Nikamou Mayelet of Gaban in the quarterfinals on Tuesday was due to take on Nqnothole Sikho of South Africa.

On his part, Katende who pummeled Umar Sadiq of Nigeria in the quarter-final takes on Algeria's Den Chabla in what is expected to be a ferocious bout Thursday night.

Only boxers who reach the finals of the event that has drawn a record number of 272 boxers from 39 countries are guaranteed of places in the Rio 2016 Games.

The first finals of the tournament are expeted on Friday ahead of the last finals on Saturday.

Losers in the semi-finals will have to square off to determine a third placed winner for a slot is Rio in each weight category.

Altogether, the Cameroon qualifiers has 36 places- 30 slots for men and the remaining for women - on offer for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Ugandan boxers fell out early include lightweight Sula Segawa, heavyweight Willy Kyakonye and super heavyweight Mike Sekabembe. The other Ugandan boxer Muzamir Katende (welterweight) was time-barred as arrived late after general weight-in last Friday.
