The minister of lands, housing and urban development Daudi Migereko has urged government to invest in sports and be able to reap benefits that come with sports.

Migereko made the appeal in his speech while closing the two day Uganda Olympic Committee Leadership training workshop for women in sports at the Source of the Nile hotel.

"There are many benefits and I urge government to invest in sports and get that mileage sports gives to the country," Migereko stated.

He cited the publicity Uganda got when Stephen Kiprotich won the Olympic medal in London.

"Sports is the engine of tourism and that is why we as government must invest in sports," Migereko added.

He also urged corporate organisations to support sports development in Uganda as one way of giving back to the community.
