The State minister for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi and the new National Council of Sports (NCS) board have confirmed Nicholas Muramagi as the new council general secretary.

Muramagi (left) was confirmed at the NCS board members meeting last week.

Muramagi, who was the assistant general secretary in charge of administration, is one of the longest serving officials at the Lugogo-based NCS body.

He has been acting general secretary since October when his predecessor Jasper Aligawesa took leave to contest for a parliamentary seat.

But Aligawesa was unsuccessful in Katikamu North.

Aligawesa became acting general secretary in 2003 and was confirmed in the post the following year.

Muramagi has been given tasks in his new role at Lugogo.

He is supposed to spearhead development at the council.

Muramagi, who was given a three year contract, is also expected to improve the relationship with national sports bodies.

He is required to ensure that all the bodies register with NCS.

Over 16 bodies have complied with the new NCS requirement to register.
