Rio Olympics: Shida Leni makes winning start in qualifiers

The Police Athletics Club star won one of the day’s biggest margins in the 400m.

Shida Leni underlined her seriousness of qualifying for the Rio Olympics with a winning start in the local athletics season.

The Police Athletics Club star won one of the day's biggest margins in the 400m.

She clocked 53.9 almost five seconds ahead of second placed Winnie Nanyondo at Namboole.

The Rio qualification mark is 52.20.

Athletes worldwide have up to July 11 to make the Olympic requirement. Nine Ugandans have so far hit the mark.

In the days' other highlight, World University gold medallist, Dorcus Ajok also got off to a strong start in the 800m.
