Despite not playing to her best Nakalembe edged out Eva Magala by two strokes

National women team golfer Irene Nakalembe staved off a late charge from team mate Eva Magala to win the 6th edition of the Castle Lite Entebbe Ladies Golf Open at Entebbe Club on Saturday.

The handicap 5 Entebbe Club member carded 160 gross over 36 holes to win the annual event for the second time in two years. She spiced up her win by taking the longest drive as well on hole number 18.

Despite not playing to her best Nakalembe edged out Eva Magala by two strokes, just like last year when she became the first Entebbe golfer to win the tournament beating Flavia Namakula and Magala by two strokes then.

"The course was fine, the greens were fantastic but I had a horrible opening day and I failed to find an excuse as to why I wasn't playing well. On the second day Magala was on my case but when she got a bogey on number 17, I bid her farewell and stuck in there to win," Nakalembe said after receiving her prizes from Castle Lite's brand manager Julian Ssentamu and Britam Insurance's Edgar Muzahura, the sponsors of the two-day event.

Agnes Namutebi claimed the group B prize with 142 nett, while Joweria Namanda and Resty Nalutaaya were first and second runners  with 143 and 148 nett respectively.

A record 164 golfers competed in one of the biggest tournaments at Entebbe Club.

Meanwhile the ladies national team that will represent the country at the All Africa Challenge Trophy tournament is still short of funds three weeks to the tournament in Tunisia.
