FUFA Big League: Wandegeya beat Synergy

Mar 04, 2016

The league strugglers had to wait until the dead of half time to find the opener through Mulangila.

Wandegeya FC have registered their first win of the second round after a resounding 2-0 home victory over Synergy FC at Kanyanya.

The hosts started the second half of this campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Hope Doves last Thursday but Wandegeya were in no mood of seeing a repeat of such a result.

Goals by Shafik Mulangila and captain Joseph Kayira ensured that the hosts carried a vital three points.

The league strugglers had to wait until the dead of half time to find the opener through Mulangila. He headed home from a nicely served cross from Kayira to put the home side into a commanding position.

But that should have come a lot earlier had Meddie Kakeeto not been wasteful in front of goal. The former Bright Stars winger is one of the playmakers and most experienced men on the Wandegeya team.

The profligacy was two-way:  Dan Kikongo would have put Synergy on course to yet another victory following an error by the goalkeeper.

Skipper Kayira went on to build on his significance on the side with a 70th minute goal from a Marvin Mbago cross.

The visitors were superior in aerial balls but Wandegeya proved solid and more disciplined in defence. Synergy crumbled as the game wore in the second half and saw no shot on target, exposing them to the prospect of defeat.

They will also have to wait a little longer before they can pick three points from Wandegeya at home after failing to do so in the last three seasons.

Next up, Wandegeya make a trip to Entebbe FC while Synergy will take on Kireka United.
