More sports to mark Kabaka's 61st birthday

Sports activities preparing for celebrations to mark Kabaka Ronald Mutebi's 61 birthday are on.

He called on more people to participate in the program that has been expanded to six disciplines.

Besides the Kabaka's birthday run that has previously been the only sports event, this year's program also has cycling, golf, mweso, squash and swimming.

The run, whose organizing committee is headed by Vision Group's Chief Executive Robert Kabushenga, remains the main event of the 12-day sports activities.

Proceeds from the run will again go towards the fight against Fitsula.

"A re-energised youth, set for any challenge," is this year's theme.

Born April 13, 1955, he has reigned as the 36th Kabaka (King) of Buganda Kingdom since July 24, 1993.

Besides raising awareness for the fight against Fistula, Mayiga said the sports activities help people appreciate the importance of physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

 

The Katikiro commended the sponsors Airtel, Vision Group, CBS, MAAD Advertising, Post Bank, Events Warehouse and Vita Foam.

Airtel Chief Executive Tom Gutjahr again underlined their commitment to support Buganda's cultural activities.
