185 vocalists, 8 instrumentalists and 20 procession dancers will perform the 62 hymns prepared but all harmonized in four voices.

The consecration of Hoima catholic diocese bishop-elect, Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo is set for Sunday at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral in Hoima.

Preparations got under way ahead of the much anticipated event.

A trip to the cathedral revealed a beehive of activities that matches an ecstatic mood among the local Christians.

Tents were pitched as church hymns were rehearsed inside the grand cathedral.

It's a massive function: six choirs will sing, according to Stanislus Birungi, the cathedral choir master.

"We have spent the last two months rehearsing and now we are doing final touches to see if what we trained is perfect," he said.

It will be one joint choir with sections of western and African instruments.

185 vocalists, 8 instrumentalists and 20 procession dancers will perform the 62 hymns prepared but all harmonized in four voices.

"It is going to be the most highly organized in the history of the cathedral because as you can see it is the first of its kind we are seeing over 180 singers," stressed Birungi.

Over 5,000 invited guests are expected to attend the consecration and installation of the bishop-elect.

"But you know people come for such functions and we expect close to 10,000 people," added Rev. Fr, John-Mary Busobozi, the organizing committee publicist.

President Yoweri Museveni is expected to grace the occasion where the principle consecrator will be Archbishop Paul Kamuza Bakyenga of Mbarara diocese assisted by other bishops.

Fr. Busobozi said a lot has changed at the cathedral: the pavilion has been extended to include the ordination altar, additions like public address system and screening services to enable people to not only hear what will be going on inside but to also see what is taking place. The gigantic screens will be erected at major points.

Meanwhile, people from various parishes of the diocese were seen disembarking from buses to be early for the function.

Basisira, who led a delegation of 75 Christians from Bukumi parish in Kibaale district, told New Vision that their group came early because it a big group and could not wait to travel on the same day (Sunday).
