USPA crowns Ssebuguzi and Leon

"We just need money to compete at the international level otherwise for us we are fit and ready."

 

The Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has crowned the crew of Ronald Ssebuguzi and Leon Ssenyange the Nile Special USPA sports personality for the month of January at a function held at Imperial Royale Hotel.

Ssebuguzi and Ssenyange were voted for the award early this month for winning the Mbarara rally last month.

Ssebuguzi lauded USPA and their sponsor Nile Special for the continued contribution to the promotion of sports in Uganda.

‘We are fit and ready'

A three-time National Rally Championship (NRC) champion, Ssebuguzi he would like to compete at the international level but he is financially crippled.

"I have ever tried to compete on the international scene but what I realized is that you have to have much money to be able to compete for the Africa Rally championship (ARC)."

"We just need money to compete at the international level otherwise for us we are fit and ready," said the Shell V-Power, Centenary bank, JCB Company and Jomayi-sponsored driver.

Despite winning several events in Uganda, Ssebuguzi wants to win more NRC championships to be able to leave a record other drivers will fight to break.

To win the January accolade with a sh500,000 cash prize, Ssebuguzi , who won the Mbarara rally, polled 310 points, defeating athlete Timothy Toroitich (280 points) and golfer Daniel Baguma (240 points).
