Kampala-based city lawyer Jude Mbabali (DP) has been declared officially as the winner of the Masaka district LCV Chairman race after he defeated the district incumbent chairman, Joseph Kalungu (NRM) with 31653 to 20,035 votes.
A primary teacher, Matia Kagugube Mulindwa (independent) trailed with 2282 votes.
The Masaka district returning Officer, Nathan Nabasa announced the results at the Masaka district headquarters Thursday afternoon.
Kagugube told the New Vision that he already conceded defeat and congratulated Mbabali for the victory. He said he is ready to work with Mbabali to uplift the living standards of the people.
In the political history of Masaka, Mbabali is the first DP leaning district chairman.
Masaka district had the late Johnmary Kasozi and Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja (NRM) who served the district for three terms before he switched to Kalungu East Parliamentary seat.
Mbabali made a last minute decision to switch his candidature from Bukoto Central Parliamentary race to Masaka district LC V post on the request of the party elders after the former Masaka Municipality MP, Dr Shannon Kakungulu, turned down the opportunity.
DP has swept all the parliamentary seats in Masaka except Bukoto Central Constituency where the Vice President, Edward Ssekandi(NRM) won.
DP also won the majority of the district councilor posts. President Museveni was also defeated by Kizza Besigye(FDC) in Masaka with a deference of 5800 votes.
