Ugandan boxers could benefit from the support of World Champion Floyd Mayweather after their retirement.

Mayweather is one of the high profile boxers who have reportedly gained interest in helping the Ugandan pugilists through a project dubbed ‘Beyond the Ring.'

The social project that is designed to lend support to the sporting community in Uganda is part of the Resurrection Life Ministries in Lubowa, Wakiso district.

Project director and founder David Kyambadde is expected to meet world champion Floyd Mayweather during his US working tour in Las Vegas this week.

The meeting was arranged by renowned referee Kenny Bayless who had a familiarization tour of Uganda in December. Bayless is the ambassador of the project in US.

The American hailed boxing as a big sport that, he said speaks volumes. "Uganda is big in boxing. When I go to conventions, Uganda is well represented," he said.

Pastor Kyambadde who departed for US on Saturday said the main goal of the project goal is to develop a fund where former and current boxers can get assistance.

"With the support of good friends, I believe this project will take off. This is a good future for the youth. We have to make sure they take the right steps," Kyambade said of the project before departure on Friday.

Besides helping to provide sports equipment to Ugandan sportsmen, the project will also inculcate vital life skills that can help boxers and other sportsmen outside the ring.
