UNRA to create more business units

Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) is to create more business units.

UNRA executive director, Allen Kagina, on Thursday told a stake holders' meeting that: "the on-going restructuring is part of the solution; to have reforms in all our systems. We are reorganising UNRA to create more business units."

She said that they were building in house capacity in the internal audit and legal department.

"Our first phase of restructuring is the human resource review. The second phase will be process and systems reviews," she said.

Kagina assured the development partners that UNRA will not turn back and that their help to move from the past to present and future is welcome.

She highlighted some achievements attained singling out the reorganisation of the procurement department where procurement timelines have reduced from 18 months to 4 months.

Kagina vowed to return public confidence by working with communities in their activities. "It was common to have roads commence without designs. Others were done in offices without due study of terrain," she noted.

World Bank Country Director, Christina Calvo, said they will continue being longstanding partners in the road sector of Uganda.
