Uganda has a lot of untapped swimming that needs to be scouted and nurtured, Swim Safe Uganda’s Executive Director Moses Kalanzi has said.

Kalanzi made the remarks at the closure of the weeklong Uganda Aquatic Survival Programme at Makerere University.

"There is a lot of untapped talent in our communities but because they have no money, they are left out,” Kalanzi said.

He added that Swim Safe Uganda will launch the search for talent in January next year in Kampala before heading to Wakiso and Jinja respectively.

Meanwhile Raymond Ssekajigo, a participant stated, “At first most of us didn’t know that in just one day, someone can start swimming and perfect their skills in a week.”

The inaugural trainers’ Level One seminar that attracted 60 participants countrywide was conducted by Felix Uzor from Ghana together with Jason Wilson and Carol Wright both from Starfish Aquatics Institute in Chicago, U.S.
