Uganda's Bboy Bbosa beat a strong field from the East African region to emerge champion at the Break-Fast Jam 2015 Finals at YMCA Wandegeya on Sunday.
Bboy Bbosa (Breakdance Project Uganda) won the 7-to-Smoke, an exhausting final round including the eight best dancers from across the region.

Bgirl Key (Batalo East / Breakdance Project Uganda) claimed the title of top Bgirl, Eric Sama (Breakdance Project Uganda) won the 1-on-1 battles, Bboy Cissa won the kids' battle, Uncle Walter was declared the best popper, and Hit The Beat Crew won for best crew.
The Break-Fast Jam 2015 Finals showcased some amazing dance talent at YMCA in Kampala over the weekend.
The 5th annual breakdance competition was the brainchild of Breakdance Project Uganda members (Fresh Lane: Kaweesi mark, Ssekitoleko Joram, and Kibuuka Mukisa Oscar) who wanted to create a platform for dancers in Uganda and across East Africa to empower and unite the region's breakdance scene, and they have done so in a big way.
Dancers travelled to Kampala for the event from Mbale, Mubende, Masaka, Luwero, Jinja, Kenya, Tanzania, D.R.C., Rwanda, Switzerland, Denmark and the U.S.A.
Breakdance Project Uganda is a grass-roots, youth-centred organisation founded in 2006. BPU uses dance, visual art, beatboxing plus other elements of hip-hop and alternative ways of learning as tools to engage and unite young people and provide them with skills and support to become socially responsible leaders in their communities.
BPU aims to bridge the gap between people of different backgrounds, build young people's leadership skills and self-esteem, increase access to formal and informal education, connect local and international artists, and generate employment opportunities.
This year's competition was supported by The US Embassy, which brought a pioneer of breaking, Crazy Legs (U.S.A.) of the Rock Steady Crew, to Uganda.
Richard Colon (Crazy Legs) is a pioneer of break-dancing (b-boying) from the 1970s as part of New York’s Rock Steady Crew. He featured in the films The Freshest Kids, Beat Street, Wild Style and Flash Dance.

Break-fast Jam 2015 Finals judges: Abramz Tekya (founder/director Breakdance Project Uganda), Crazy Legs (Rock Steady Crew U.S.A.) & Mark Kaweesi (Chairman of Break-Fast Jam).
Crazy Legs judged battles and gave workshops in dance techniques, Hip hop history and professionalism.
Break-Fast Jam 2015 attracted a large, enthusiastic and diverse audience, including lots of cameras and people from all backgrounds who were entertained by the footwork, flips and friendly competition between bboys, bgirls, kids, poppers and crews.
The weekend event featured performances by The Mith, Ruyonga, St. Nellysade, Snooty Fredo, Sylvester and Abramz, as well as The Marvels dance crew from Uganda and Sisko Dance Crew from Kenya. DJ Snuff (Universal Zulu Nation) flew in from the UK to DJ Break-Fast Jam 2015.
Breakdance Project Uganda founder and director Abramz Tekya welcomed the audience to come attend their free classes for all levels every week on Monday and Wednesday from 5-9pm at the Sharing Youth Centre, Nsambya. There are also Breakdance Project Uganda branches active in Gulu, Masaka and Kitgum.
The overall aim of the project is cultivating a positively enriching breakdance culture in Africa. This initiative empowers participants socially and economically by elevating them with practical skills, knowledge, inspiration and experiences on a neutral platform.
BreakDance Project Uganda's regular activities include workshops, competitions, performances, exhibitions and educational discussions.
