Mulindwa loses out on CECAFA presidency

FUFA Honorary President Lawrence Mulindwa has lost out on the coveted CECAFA presidency during a heated election at the CECAFA General Assembly.

Mulindwa lost to Sudanese Muhatasim Gaffe with 4-6 votes in the tight race.

An earlier challenge to eventual winner Muhatasim did not do much to rob him of victory.

"They had the President's seat before and we can’t allow to give them this one again!"

These were the words that dominated the CECAFA elections after Muhatasim stepped onto the podium seeking for the mandate.

Taking the loss in stride, Mulindwa said he now looks to the CAF Executive committee seat in the next two years in order to continue with football development in Africa and CECAFA at large.

What surprised many is none of of the big football nations in CECAFA has a member on the Executive and Mulindwa described this as a major blow to the region.


Meanwhile two FIFA Presidency aspirants attended the CECAFA General assembly including Jerome Schampaign and Prince Bin Ali and both were given time to speak at the Assembly.

Prince Bin Ali promised to develop African leagues and sell them more to the outside world and also give Africa 3 more slots in the World Cup as well as promoting women football in Africa.

Jerome Schampaign promised Africa two more slots at the World Cup as well as improving on the pitches in Africa.

He also promised more places for CECAFA to the FIFA Executive after Nsekera of Burundi who represents CAF on the FIFA executive committee.
