Uganda Cranes assistant coach Frank ‘Video’ Anyau is optimistic the current CHAN team will go beyond the group stage of Africa’s second biggest soccer competition for the first time.

Uganda is drawn in group D with Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mali and Anyau believes the opponents are not a big threat to Cranes now.

“We have not done well at CHAN before but Rwanda will be a different case. It will be like home. We shall make it because our players are on their peak,” Anyau said.

“It will be big because our recent performance has attracted all sorts of scouts and the players know that. All we need is everyone’s support.”

Uganda failed to go beyond the group stages in the past two editions when the team qualified for the CHAN finals in Sudan and South Africa.

They drew goalless with Zimbabwe in group B in 2014.

But Zimbabwe and Morocco advanced to the quarterfinals.

Finals of the Orange Africa Nations Championship will take place from January 16 to February 7, 2016 in Rwanda.

Group A will be at the Amahoro Stadium.
